iOS 27 Arrives With Siri AI in Beta as Apple Rolls Out Its Biggest Assistant Overhaul Yet
Apple has released iOS 27, making the long-promised Siri AI available to users with the assistant now able to draw on personal context from texts, emails and calendar events and to take actions on a user's behalf, such as moving appointment details from a text message into the calendar. Siri AI remains labeled a beta, launches in English first with French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish following in October, and its voice customization is limited to iPhone 17 and newer M-series devices. macOS 27, iPadOS 27, watchOS 27 and visionOS 27 shipped the same day.

Costa Rica Probes Alleged 400 Million Record Leak From Credit Agency Cero Riesgo on Dark Web
Costa Rica's National Cybersecurity Directorate has opened an investigation into an alleged massive data leak from credit protection company Cero Riesgo, after a threat actor using the name jarol1488 advertised a database of more than 400 million records on the DarkForums marketplace, including salaries, addresses, phone numbers and photographs of Costa Rican citizens. Specialists analyzing a sample of roughly 10,000 released entries have confirmed some data is genuine, though authorities say it is not yet possible to verify the full scope of the file. Director Gezer Molina Colomer said the issue was identified over the weekend. The Central Bank has denied any breach of its own systems after speculation linked the data to the national beneficial-ownership registry it manages.

Anthropic Says AI Now Leads 26 Percent of Its Own Research as It Proposes Public Progress Metrics
Anthropic has published a set of proposed public metrics for tracking the pace of frontier AI development, revealing that as of August 2026 its Claude model leads 26 percent of the company's AI research and development work, with more than 90 percent of tasks involving AI collaboration. The proposal, laid out in a company post, covers three areas: how much AI builds the next version of itself, how well humans can oversee AI agents, and how compute is allocated. The company disclosed roughly 30,000 agents working on its systems, monitors that blocked 0.002 percent of over a billion agent decisions, and about 6 percent of research compute devoted to safety. CEO Dario Amodei has called for coordinated pacing of the frontier, and the metrics are designed to let the public verify any slowdown.

Anthropic Folds Cowork Into Claude and Launches Docs and Slides Editors
Anthropic is merging Cowork, its tool for longer-running tasks, into the main Claude app and launching two new beta editors, Claude Docs and Claude Slides, letting users create, edit and export documents and presentations directly from conversations, according to a company blog post Wednesday. The redesign removes the need for users to choose between chatting with Claude or assigning it a task — Claude now decides how to handle each request — with task breakdown, tool use and background work becoming standard chat features. Docs and Slides, in beta for paid plans, support single shareable links across desktop and mobile, in-app slide presentation, and export to Google formats, PowerPoint or PDF. Pro and Max subscribers get the changes first in the coming weeks, with enterprise administrators receiving at least 30 days' notice. The move puts Anthropic in direct competition with Google Workspace and Microsoft 365 and follows OpenAI's July merger of ChatGPT and Codex.

Hackers Impersonate Italian Law Enforcement to Extort Revolut Over 680 Customers
A hacking group calling itself iamnotavillain has demanded 6,000 monero, worth roughly 3 million dollars, from fintech Revolut after tricking the company into handing over customer data by impersonating Italian law enforcement through the country's certified government email system. The group says it holds files on 680 Revolut customers across 31 countries, most based in Switzerland and France, including passports, identity-check selfies, account IDs and crypto transaction records, after targeting users with large crypto holdings identified through onchain analysis. Revolut says its core systems, databases and customer funds were never breached and that it identified the scam, blocked the fraudulent address and notified law enforcement and regulators, saying it has received no direct ransom demand. Italian postal police and the interior ministry have confirmed an investigation into the compromised PEC email channel, while opposition lawmaker Giulia Pastorella called the breach of a government email account alarming.
