Apple iPhone 17 Pro Max Leaks Reveal Titanium Design and Under-Display Face ID

Supply chain sources leaked detailed specifications for the Apple iPhone 17 Pro Max, revealing a titanium unibody design and under-display Face ID system that eliminates the Dynamic Island notch introduced in 2022.
The device, expected to launch in September 2026, will feature a 6.9-inch LTPO OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and peak brightness of 3,200 nits, the highest of any smartphone currently available on the market. The display is manufactured by Samsung Display using its latest QD-OLED technology.
"The under-display Face ID implementation is the most significant design change since the removal of the home button in 2017," said Ming-Chi Kuo, a supply chain analyst at TF International Securities. "Apple has solved the image quality challenges that delayed this technology for two years."
## Processor and Performance
The A19 Pro chip, manufactured on TSMC 2-nanometer process, delivers 30 percent faster performance and 25 percent improved power efficiency compared with the A18 Pro. The chip features a 6-core CPU, 6-core GPU, and a 16-core Neural Engine capable of 35 trillion operations per second.
Apple claims the A19 Pro can run on-device large language models with up to 13 billion parameters, enabling advanced AI features without cloud processing. The company demonstrated real-time language translation, image generation, and code completion running entirely on the device at its June developer conference.
"The combination of 2-nanometer manufacturing and Apple custom architecture gives the iPhone 17 Pro Max a significant performance advantage over Android competitors," said Patrick Moorhead, CEO of Moor Insights and Strategy.
## Camera System Overhaul
Camera upgrades include a 200-megapixel main sensor with a larger 1-inch pixel size, a 50-megapixel ultrawide lens, and a 5x optical zoom periscope telephoto lens. The front-facing camera moves to 24 megapixels with autofocus, up from 12 megapixels in the current generation.
Apple introduced a new Photonic Engine 2.0 computational photography pipeline that combines data from multiple sensors to produce images with improved dynamic range and reduced noise in low-light conditions. The system processes up to 12 frames simultaneously using the Neural Engine.
"The 200-megapixel sensor allows Apple to match Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra resolution while maintaining Apple advantage in computational photography," said Daniel Razavi, a camera technology analyst at Counterpoint Research.
## Battery and Charging
The iPhone 17 Pro Max includes a 4,800 milliamp-hour battery, a 12 percent increase over the iPhone 16 Pro Max. Apple claims up to 33 hours of video playback, the longest of any iPhone ever produced. The device supports 45-watt wired charging and 25-watt MagSafe wireless charging.
## Pricing and Availability
The iPhone 17 Pro Max is expected to start at $1,299 for the 256GB model, with 512GB and 1TB configurations available at $1,499 and $1,799 respectively. Analysts expect Apple to sell approximately 90 million units in the first quarter of availability, driven by upgrades from the iPhone 14 and 15 install base.
Pre-orders are expected to open on September 12, with general availability on September 19. The device will launch in 42 countries simultaneously, the widest initial availability for any iPhone model in Apple history.
